Find The Computer Room, known affectionately by its acronym FTCR, is a YouTube channel that was created on June 9th, 2007. Founded by Gareth aka “TheRealFTA,” the early days of the channel featured him and a man named Torch. At some point, Torch left. At a much later point, Gareth left.
I first met a handful of FTCR-ians at Youmacon 2015, an anime convention that happened to have a couple Sonic-themed events take place, including a concert by Crush 40! And by Crush 40, I mean Jun Senoue and Johnny Gioeli standing on a stage performing to a backing track. As far as I know, Johnny did not curl up into the fetal position during the performance, but I did miss it entirely because of work. Whoops. Instead, I met up with everyone the next day, at a Sonic panel that neglected to have a moderator. Afterwards, alcohol was involved.
For some reason, I didn’t participate in the channel until 2017, on an episode of Sonic Sez, the short-lived Post-Reboot Sonic Archie comic podcast. From there, I was invited to join on a Let’s Play of Chaotix, in which I told a story or two. And the rest, they say, is history.
Currently, the core group is MykonosFan, GamesEnlisted, Smoovies, and myself. There are other members, of course (Skyler, MBM), but the four of us get together more often than everyone else does. There is a Twitter, there is an out of control Twitter, and there is, for some reason, a page on TV Tropes. As of this writing, I am not mentioned in any capacity on that page...
I will say, that when we get together to record anything for FTCR, it is the highlight of the day. Being able to converse with these fellows is always a treat, both in “content mode” and also just hanging out afterwards. Who were once random people on the internet are now close friends, and for that, I am thankful.
Perhaps the best thing we have done is the Rayman 2 Let’s Play.
