The Gonterman Archive

Johnny Briz

Of all the characters David Gonterman has created over the years, there’s been one constant, one curious face that has popped up time and time again. Originally named Jonathan Brisby, Johnny Briz was the first character Davey ever created. Yes, before his self-inserts, before the slew of roleplaying-inspired heroes and villains, “it all started with a mouse.” Having the smallest cameo in Blood and Metal, Johnny featured in Firestorm before being repurposed in Fauna Force, Mystic Mice, Livewire Latte, and anywhere else the cartoony mascot would fit in the wide world of Davey Foxfire.

Its origins in Don Bluth and classic Disney, the character would serve as the unofficial face of Foxfire Studios, especially as Gonterman became more involved with the Disney Echo community. A website that covered all aspects of Disney, member blogs and a fair amount of roleplaying emerged from those who visited on a daily basis. In 2010, he was invited to write some prose in honor of a monumental moment in the history of Disney fandom - the return of Oswald, the Lucky Rabbit.

The series Mickey V Oswald served as another launching pad for Johnny Briz, becoming an essential element of the story. Soon, other works were being posted on Gonterman’s official homepage. But as the Disneyland Role Play forum wound down, he was inspired to take elements from this community he had called home and once again relaunch the Johnny Briz story. At first, it was to be Disney-centric, with The Ballad of Johnny Briz being the first production of The Disney Bros. As he refined the script, another take suddenly made more sense. To remove all direct references to Disney characters, set up a Kickstarter, and begin work on his final webcomic...

Mickey V Oswald
A story “eighty plus years in the making,” Mickey V Oswald ostensibly serves as a sequel to the video game Epic Mickey. With Oswald saved from obscurity and back in the Disney fold, the question is posed: can the two brothers coexist as the stars of the Walt Disney Company? Bob Igar seems fine with things, but there is one person who will make sure this transition is smooth. Well, not a person, but a mouse. Yes, it’s Johnny Briz, who else were you expecting?
Torched Management Part 2
The only chapter that has survived, a slightly drunk Johnny Briz runs amuck outside of Disney World, being pursued by Peg Leg Pete and Security Guard Pete. Two Pete’s means double the trouble, but will Johnny outsmart them? I mean probably.

Johnny Briz Pilot 2.0 - Draft 1
Amber Merichello, animation lover, can’t help but complain about the current state of the industry. As she decides to assault someone, Mickey Mouse and Oswald the Lucky Rabbit show up. It isn’t long before the trio stumble across a half-naked mouse who is in need of some assistance. The origin of Johnny, all over again.
